Why didn't the DJ play my song request?

On behalf of open format DJs everywhere, I'm sorry if your song request didn't get played. Our goal as DJs is to move and groove you, we want to hear your requests and play the music you love.

Over the years of Djing I have found that there are several reasons song requests don't get played, and here they are:

1. The obvious... it was a bad request. It could be the wrong song for the crowd, inappropriate, or too obscure. The DJ wants to stay away from songs that will kill their dance floor. 
2. The DJ did not have that song. While most DJs have huge libraries, they don't always have everything and for the most part, will not risk going online and downloading a song while in the middle of performing.
3. It was on the client's "do not play" list.  Some clients give their DJs a "do not play" list before their event which usually includes popular songs, artists, or line-dances.
4. The DJ already played that song. Guests who arrive fashionably late can miss the first 20-50 songs and not realize their request had already been played. 
5. The DJ did play your song request.  You just happened to step outside or use the restroom while it was playing.
6. The DJ forgot.  DJs are humans too and sometimes we forget, sorry!
7. The DJ misheard you. It's a party and it's loud, sometimes the DJ mishears the request and ends up playing a totally different song thinking they got your back ;)
8. There wasn't enough time. It was a great requests but there just wasn't enough time to drop it in.

If you are hiring a DJ for a private event, be sure to get your requests in a few days before the event. Let your DJ know which songs "must be played" and any "do not play" songs. This is the best way to ensure that your requests will get played.  If you do have a good request for the DJ while s/he is performing, be patient, the DJ is finding the right place to work it in and it will be so dope when they do!
